With the 2024 Spring season starting to bloom, the 950 club finally catches up to the very pleasant Winter 2024 season.  For this recap we focus on shows like Unwanted Undead Adventurer, The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, Shangri-la Frontier, The Apothecary Diaries,  Sasaki and Peeps, 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Care-free Life Married to Her Worst Enemy, Ninja Kamui, A Sign of Affection, Burn the Witch 0.8, Mr. Villain's Day Off, and of course, Delicious in Dungeon!  We also share our most disappointing shows of the season, short preview the spring 2024 anime season, Edwin's review of the Netflix Live Action Adaptation of Avatar, an in depth catch-up with Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki, and Jamaal with another mystery bag of surprise reviews with Perfect Blue and Suzume.  Our longest recorded session ever and for good reason! 
 
 

Martin's Favorite Anime of 2023 / Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Deep Dive Part 2 / State of Video Gaming 2023

After two years, Martin is back for another great 950 club session!  For such a special episode we really went all out!  For the first part we continue our ongoing discussion of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End (Spoilers for Episodes 1-17, Preview 18).  Similar to our discussion with Jesse, for this retrospective we focus on the character dynamics and the importance of time and relationships in Frieren.  The 2nd part is Martin's top favorite anime of 2023, which includes The 100 girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You, Goblin Slayer 2nd Season, and his #1 show Shangri-La Frontier; our first deep dive into this glorious epic about a speed-running gamer who is taking on these strong virtual monsters in a God tier Virtual game with his experience playing really bad trash games.  For the final part of the episode we have an impromptu discussion on the current state of video-gaming!  From shady gaming company practices, annoying DLC practices, and our hesitations with online gaming.   We parry, parry the whole episode with laughs and insightful outlooks, so check it out!  

Jesse's Top 10 Anime of 2023 / Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Part 1

Jesse is back!  This time he shares his top 10 favorite anime of 2023.  Jesse's list is isekai heavy with shows like Campfire Cooking in Another World, By the Grace of the Gods Season 2, and Farming Life in Another World!  But above all else, the show that made his number 1 is a show we are finally going to discuss, and that is Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.  The 950 Club tries its darndest to tackle the many themes and theories that make this simple story into a though provoking, and action packed emotional rollercoaster.  Part 1 of many, many discussions on this epic anime! 

Jesse's Trip To Japan: 950 Club After Hours Special

Jesse is back for our new After Hours special!  He is officially the first member to visit the wondrous land of Japan, and boy, does he have stories to share!  Especially his different experiences trying the top tier food Tokyo has to offer.  This episode is definitely recommended for anyone that is going to travel to Japan soon, from the navigation to  the hidden secrets for any traveler worried about money and lodging.  Jamaal also shares his surprise catch-ups of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Super Mario Brothers Movie (2023) and the first 2 Harry Potter films.  Also we talk Miyazaki, DVDs becoming a sound investment, and Jamaal shares his Xmas horror stories about the company he works for.  

Alberto, Edwin, Jack and Jamaal's Top 10 Favorite Shows of 2023

2023.  Let's take it allllllll in.  The 950 Club finally comes back with our top favorite shows of 2023.   Alberto officially makes his debut and what a way to start off 2024!  Jamaal, Edwin and Jack join in as well and have plenty of shows to rank as we mention the very popular, (Demon Slayer, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, Bleach; Thousand Year Blood War) to the not so popular (The Faraway Paladin Season 2, Reborn as a Vending Machine, Otaku Elf, Berserk of Gluttony) and our most disappointing shows (Oshi no Ko, Mushkou Tensei Season 2, KonoSuba: An Explosion on this Wonderful World!).  But we definitely didn't forget shows like Campfire Cooking in Another World, The Dangers in My Heart, Tomo-chan is a Girl!, and The Apothecary Diaries.  Listen in if you are curious on select shows that you haven't seen to get a good sample on how special 2023 was!

The 950 Club’s Best of 2022

The long awaited Best of 2022 episode is finally here.  We can't spoil the surprises and shocks here but we will tell you one secret....2022 was a special year of anime! We list the categories of Best VA Performance, Best Ensamble, Best Manga, Best Musical Score, Best Opening, Best Closing, Best Main Character, Best Boy, Best Girl and all of our favorites in the Iseki and Slice of Life genres.   Join us as we reflect on shows like Call of the Night, Aharen-san, Chainsaw Man, Lycoris Recoil, Ascendence of a Bookworm, Reincarnated as a Sword, Komi Can't Communicate, Demon Slayer, and many many more as Jack and Edwin share their top 10 (ish) favorite shows of 2022.  

Ahsoka Review / The 950 Club’s OFFICIAL State of Streaming 2023

As the year 2023 is about to close up, the 950 club has to make sure to trademark certain phrases as we, the originators of the STATE OF STREAMING (#stateofstreaming2023), once again update the masses on the streaming wars.  Instead of pandering towards rating each streaming platform, we talk more on the current business models of streaming.  We also tackle on the tougher questions: Who is exactly getting money in Japan from distributing anime in America?  Is Amazon Prime THAT bad?  Will Crunchyroll ever reformat their streaming services? Is Netflix falling back into their bad habits? Are the free streaming platforms paving way towards network syndication?  Will major sports and wrestling thrive with their new network deals? What exactly is the future of Disney Plus with their Hulu merger?  And many more questions and answers towards our end of the year address on streaming.

The Vampire Dies in No Time / Not So Spooooky Special Part2

Part 2 of our Not So Spooooky Special we review one of the most overlooked shows today: The Vampire Dies in No Time!   Ronaldo, a world famous Vampire Hunter and author, reluctantly helps out a vampire whose castle was destroyed.  The vampire Drac only repays him by being the  worst roommate  ever.  This odd couple show now only focuses on the two main character's dynamics but also builds into a crazy show that goes beyond the scope of humor.  Tune in as Edwin and Jack praise their love for John  the Armadillo and the ridiculous hijinks this show packs in.

Part 1 of the Not So Spooooky Special we talk about The Duke of Death and His Maid, a CGI adapted anime that is actually very stylized with its art choices.  Not only is the story a non traditional gothic tale but also a charming and lively romance in which the main character cannot touch the love of his life.
